Montana repeals its sterilization law

1981 Montana’s sterilization law was officially repealed in 1981.

As of 2014, seven states have apologized for their role in the forced sterilization of citizens; Montana is not one of them. Even after the repeal of its sterilization law, in 1987 the State Developmental Disabilities Planning and Advisory Council was still debating the merits of sterilization for the mentally disabled.
