October 14, 2010. In October of 2010, the Living Archives on Eugenics project held its inaugural public week of events in Edmonton since being awarded the Community-University Research Alliance (CURA) grant. At the keynote event of the weekend, sterilization survivor Leilani Muir read a Mayoral Proclamation from the Mayor of Edmonton, Stephen Mandel, declaring October 23rd “Remembering the History of Eugenics in Alberta Day.”
The day aims to encourage people to reflect on eugenics and its legacy, as well as to recognize the survivors of eugenic policies in Canada.
