1986 Popular science-fiction author, Piers Anthony publishes Ghost, a novel set in a future world where the Miscegenation Act prevents two people of the same race from reproducing. This law is enacted on the a surface level as an effort to end racial riots, but is later revealed to be a measure of population control. While ostensibly the main plot of this novel revolves around the plight of Captain Shetland as he searches the universe to find a new energy source for earth, the author uses the novel to offer commentary on the destructive nature of humans and the hazards of allowing the government to control reproduction. This novel is an example of the popularity of eugenic themes in popular culture.
