August 16, 1928. The Wetaskiwin Times ran an article, featured on Winnipeg titled “Sterilization Law Advocated for Manitoba.” Reports from August 10, 1928 in Winnipeg stated that the province was considering a sterilization law due the increase of mental defectives and degenerates, for which Judge F. A. E. Hamilton said sterilization was the only remedy. Ultimately, Manitoba never passed an explicit sterilization law, although it was involved in eugenics in other ways.
