March 11, 1926. An article titled “Travelling Clinics Visit All Outposts” was published by the United Farmers of Alberta (U.F.A.) as a review of the departmental activities of George Hoadley, Alberta’s Minister of Health. The article discusses travelling clinics and the number of dental, medical and surgical cases examined and performed. Four venereal disease clinics were also set up in different cities around Alberta. A suggestion was made by the director that a confirmation be added to marriage certificates for men that have not had venereal diseases. The article concluded by acknowledging the vital statistics department to be very well organized.
Although the article does not directly reference sterilization, the topic of venereal disease as well as mental and physical hygiene were important discussions to the eugenics movement in Alberta.
This article can be found online in the Peel Collection here.
